Exhibition Rugby League Match @ Loftus Versveld

6/29/2019

TuksRugbyLeague was invited to participate in an exhibition Rugby League-match at the Future Blue Bulls Union Tournament hosted at Loftus Versfeld, Pretoria on the 22 June 2019.
This tournament is earmarked to become one of the regular tournaments on the rugby-union calendar in the future.
Due to union commitments resulting in only a few RL-club-players being available, at this time of the year, invitations were extended to other provinces and clubs to nominate and aware their players of this change to “show-boat” RL- with the union-code.

It was quite a surprise to see the interest to play in the match.  As the union-tournament games were played on the various pitches at Loftus the exhibition RL-match had a spectator value of ±300 people around the pitch watching the game.  The game entertained the spectators with the typical fast plays, as associated with Rugby League, resulted in a regular flow of tries been scored.  Willie Ferreira surprised us all by slotting well in the “commentator-chair” by doing live commentating for all to hear- while the game was played.

Interest was seen & heard all around.  During the game interest was noted by some of the spectators asking reference to when and where they can attend when the season starts.

On the day it must be noted that sharing different codes on the same pitch brings interest and entertainment that can be shared by all.
Hopefully such an event can be duplicated for all.

On behalf of TuksRL Management we would like to say thank you to the following persons that participated & assisted on the fun day.

Asia Pacific Rugby League Confederation to hold annual congress

6/3/2019

The Asia Pacific Rugby League Confederation (APRLC) will hold its Annual General Meeting for members in Parramatta, Sydney on Thursday June 20th. The confederation is the Associate Member of the Rugby League International Federation (RLIF) which represents the nations in the southern hemisphere.

As this year is a voting year, the meeting will elect a Chair and Vice-Chair who will serve for the next three years. The current Chair and Vice-Chair are Tagaloa Faafouina Su’a (Samoa) and Charles Carlson (Cook Islands)

The RLIF Southern Hemisphere General Manager, Jeremy Edwards recognises that this is an exciting period of history for rugby league in the region saying:

“This is a really important gathering for the rugby league community in the Southern Hemisphere. We will have delegates at the meeting from four continents, Africa, Asia, South America and Oceania. A truly inspirational gathering.

“The game in the Pacific region has developed immensely in the past 10 years to the point where, arguably, some of the great stars of our sport have their roots in the Pacific Islands.

“After the very strong showing from the Asian nations at the RLIF Emerging Nations, it will be a pleasure to welcome contributions from that region to our conversations.

“As General Manager for the Southern Hemisphere, I am looking forward to working with the chair and the board to deliver the most exciting programme of competitions, games and development ever seen in the region.”
