The South African Rugby League season traditionally starts on 1 September. The Covid-19 pandemic and associated restrictions by the government severely affected the rugby union's club and amateur championships.
In conversation with Dr. Eugene Hare, CEO of BBRU, it was decided to start the rugby league season only on the 1st of November 2021. This will give the union clubs the opportunity to complete their respective competition season. In view of possible further Covid-19 restrictions, it has been agreed that the BBRU will conclude their amateur championships on or before the 31st of October 2021.
The implication of this is that the rugby league season could possibly extend until March 2022.
